I scored these babies in black from my favorite layaway store “strawberry”. I saw it on the Chinese Laundry website and loved it. Well two things deterred me from buying them:
1). The price
2.) Shipping and handling.
Now I hate to pay S&H with a passion unless it absolutely necessary ( which most times, its not).
So on one of my recent visit to strawberry, I happen to walk into their shoes section. I have to say their shoe section is pretty impressive and has a few name brand collection ( Jessica Simpson, nine west, Chinese laundry, Aldo, etc) for much less that the retail price. So anyway, I saw the booties for $69.00 instead of the online price for $89.00 ($20.00 less….Yaaay!!!!!)
I immediately placed them on layaway because this store generates a lot of traffic and when you see something you have to act on it. In my previous post I mentioned that some stores are doing layaways and that it doesn’t hurt to use this plan especially when strapped for cash or even if you have the cash, it frees up more of it to do something else that’s needed to get done.
Here is how my layaway worked out, I asked for it to be put on layaway (you don’t have to be shy about it. I used to be at first but now I don’t care as no one know my pocket more than I do) and the policy is 20% of the total cost but you have to be buying a minimum of $40 for it to be on layaway. With an additional $5.00 and about $3.00 tax(estimated, because I don’t quite remember) to save the shoe…. the final cost was $77.00.
My first minimum down-payment was $15.40 and for the next 3 week I paid down $20.53, or more if I choose or I can also pay in one lump sum on the day of the pick-up. The store will often remind you on the last day that you need to pick up your purchase or lose your down-payment.
Now I know some of you will argue and say that $77 is only $12 less than $89 (the online price)…..BUT you are forgetting S&H which is $10.50. Go ahead by all means if you have the money, and if you don’t have the headache of paying for S&H and not have it delivered. Often times I have to drive to the UPS pick up center to get it, when I paid for it and the driver decide that they would just conveniently miss my house, so what am I paying for…..seriously!!!!
Again, this works for me and might not necessarily work for you, however you might find some joy in trying it just once…..or what I would like to call the frugal way, but what do you think?
Ciao Bellas and thanks for visiting.
